This year, with its new online format, the conference connected local and international audiences to a tradeshow, Food, Feed, Fibre and Fraction specific meetings.
The Opening Plenary session included greetings from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Health Canada, and presentations on CHTA - State of the Organization (Keith Jones, President) and Disruptive Marketing in the Time of COVID-19 (Marty Seymour, FCC).
The Regulatory session featured presentations on national (Health Canada) and international (Valentina Vaguengueim, CCI Deloitte) hemp regulations - covering all the changes the year delivered.
The International Panel (Rick Trojan-USA, Daniel Kruse-Europe, Xueqiang Liu-China, Charles Kovess-Australia, Dr. Harumi Kikuchi-Japan, and Rohit Sharma-India) delivered information on the current opportunities and challenges in each key market.
The Feed session included updates on the process to register hemp as livestock feed ingredients in Canada (Dr. Rex Newkirk, University of Saskatchewan) and the USA (Hunter Buffington, Hemp Feed Coalition).
The Fibre session focused on the development of commercial products for the Construction (Sébastien Belec, Nature Fibres), Biocomposites (Dan Madlung, Biocomposite Group), Cellulose (Dr. Jonathan Curtis, University of Alberta), and Automotive (Christian Fischer, Bcomp) sectors.
The Food session brought presentations on Supply Chain Certifications (Katija Morley, NSF Canada), Nutritional Marketing Opportunities (Julianne Curran, Pulse Canada), Retail Marketing, and Food Service Marketing.
The Fractions session featured presentations on Body Care, Cannabinoid Markets (Ryan Jackson, Folium Biosciences Canada), and Natural Health Products (Dan Demers, Canadian Health Food Association).
The Financial Services session included presentations on Banking (Sasha Musji, ATB and Doug Wilson, FCC) and Insurance (Ben Eastman,The Co-operators).
Our Closing Keynote Speaker was Gordon Bacon (Pulse Canada), presenting a personal perspective on how the Canadian pulse industry moved into the mainstream based on sustainability and health attributes, and sustained market development.
New to producing hemp? The breakout session on Hemp Production, with several speakers shared licensing, agronomy and marketing tips.
The Workshop is for new and experienced hemp producers providing the most recent information on growing and marketing hemp in Canada.
